De Mijlpaal is the second restaurant in Tongeren to achieve a Michelin star. It s located in the heart of Tongeren. I ve done many lunches there because of the interesting € 35 price for 3 courses. In the evening I had done the Marktmenu twice which is a 4 course meal at € 48. But this time we went all out for the Mijlpaalmenu the 6 course dining experience including a dessert you can choose from the dessertcard ( see last picture ). I ve tasted some more daring flavour combos in the past in this restaurant, so I was curious for this menu. It had one ingredient - sepia - on the menu wich I had to google to find out it was ... a kind of squid.

The amuses
1st course : Mackerel / Peas / Cévenne oignons / lemon
1st white wine : a Sauvignon from Domaine Valensac
2nd course : European lobster /beans / broth with start anise / sepia
2nd white wine : a chardonnay , Mâcon Solutré Pouilly
3rd course : Brill / white asparagus / morels / ragout of pigs cheek
4th course : Veal sweetbread & sirloin / blinis with tarragon / young fennel
The sweetbread was turned into a croquette. Blinis btw are a kind of small pancakes. Thank you google ... again.
red wine : a Mesquida from Mallorca
5th course : buffalo mozzarella / ijs of basil / tomato
When I read this on the menu I never expected the following plate :

6th course : Crémeux of red fruit, crispy puffed rice, sorbet of straberry
from the dessertmenu ( see last picture )
and yours truly offcourse . Hope I have inspired you to go there sometime. We certainly enjoyed it !
